Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does a new deck cost?

As cliche of an answer this may be, it really just depends... It depends on how large of a deck you're looking to build, how complex of a deck you're looking to build, and what type of materials you're looking to have installed! We are proud of, and stand by our prices and would venture to say that we're one of the most affordable deck builders in the Mid-Missouri area, we just want an opportunity to prove it to you! For the sake of providing an actual tangible answer, we would say that the industry average cost for a new deck build is about $10,000 ranging as high as $75,000. In order to really give you and your project the most accurate answer, don't hesitate to give our team a call today and discuss your options and schedule your free no-obligation estimate!

  • What is the average lifespan of a new deck?

As with most of these answers, you'll see that it really just depends. The biggest factor when it comes to answering this question, is what type of material are you using for your deck? Untreated wood can last anywhere from 15-30 years. But treated wood or composite decking materials can have a life span of over 45+ years! It really depends on the type of material you use, and we can give you our professional recommendations if you're unsure what type is best for you!

  • What is the cheapest decking material?

In our industryWe hate this question, more specifically the word cheap! We don't believe any materials we use are cheap or any of our building practices are ever "cheap." Now, some materials are more affordable than others. Traditionally, the least expensive type of material to build with is pressure treated pine. Again, this has varied since Covid, as materials have gone up-down and sideways. Give our team a call today to hear what the industry is doing and what materials are more and less expensive at this point in time.

  • What are the most common deck repairs?

Over the year's, Graber Outdoors and our network of service providers have seen it all! There are a wide variety of issues that a deck can run into that would cause issues to the structural integrity of the deck. When something causes a threat to the structural integrity of a deck, that is when you need to stay off of it and take immediate steps to have your existing deck repaired. When it comes to cosmetic damage, we've completed plenty of those jobs as well, but don't necessarily require you have to get it repaired as it wouldn't threaten your life... Below are a list of the most common issues that we repair for customers in the area:

    | Nails sticking out | Nails that have rotted | Re-staining | Resealing | Broken Stairs | Railing repairs | Dry Rot | Termite damage | Broken deck boards | Loose Rails | Loose screws | Un-even deck boards

  • Do I need to obtain a permit to build a new deck?

Yes, most of the time, depending on your specific municipality your new decking project will require permits to begin. But that is where we come in to help! Having built hundreds of decks and patios over the years and helped customers obtain hundreds of permits we make the process super easy and streamlined for you. The application process takes on average 7-10 days to complete. Large and complex projects may take longer to obtain necessary permits. Long story short, no need to be worried about the permit process. We will be by your side, hand-in-hand from contract acceptance to project completion!

  • How long does it take to install a new deck?

We can't promise you that our company will be the fastest, but we can promise you we will be the highest quality contractor. But it really does depend on quite a few different factors when putting together a timeline from inception to completion. It depends on the weather we have during that period, the time of the year, the type of soil we're building on, and the size/complexity of the project!

We can say though, that often time's a full on deck build takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks to complete. The span of time depends on the factors listed above.

  • What Is the best decking material option?

The best decking material option is different for each person! One person may think that pressure treated pine looks the best, and another might think a composite decking material looks the best. When it comes to which one is the best, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In an attempt to provide you with some actual substance, we can say this. Composite materials usually have the longest life-span and the least amount of upkeep. Synthetic and composite decks are are also well known for very little upkeep.

If you need help figuring out what decking materials are right for you and your family, give us a call and we will happily help you answer that question!
